As you know, Joplin, Missouri was devastated by a tornado yesterday. More than 110 people have been confirmed dead, and nearly 1/3 of the town is destroyed.
The Journey is partnering in our relief efforts with Mystery Church and Pastor Steev Inge, a fellow brother and member of the Acts 29 Network. Mystery Church had several families who have lost everything, and they are taking a very active role in housing and caring for those in their community who are in need. The attached pictures are of a Mystery Church member’s home and neighborhood.
The Journey cares deeply for all those hit by the storm in Joplin. We have partnered with Mystery Church to offer immediate financial help to rebuild homes and lives. Please join us.
We hope at least 1,000 Journey members and attendees will give $10 each to the Joplin Tornado Relief Fund. All donations will go to Mystery Church to help tornado victims rebuild their homes and lives. Press here to donate to the Joplin Tornado Relief Fund.
Our desire is to see the The Journey would be the very hands and feet of Jesus as we come alongside the people of Joplin and Mystery Church. In times of crisis, that means feeding the hungry and giving shelter to the homeless. We pray and trust that the people of God will rise up and tangibly demonstrate God’s love. Let us remember the people of Mystery Church and Joplin in our prayers and give faithfully out of what God has given us. Press here to donate to the Joplin Tornado Relief Fund.

Thanks Paul! I’m sure that need will come up soon. We are in regular conversations with Steev as he grasps what has happened and what he needs to best support his church and community. I’ll let you know when those come up in the future.

Bob,
Is there any thoughts to sending people to help this weekend in Joplin? Brenda and I have been discussing going to the area to help. We have an RV that could take and house 6-8 people to help by, if nohting else be a mobile kitchen. I hold 100 gallons of water, good size fridge, stove, oven, and lots of storage for supplies. We could take large amounts of bottled water or gatoraid and food. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks Bob! Saw you on the news and glad that you guys and your car are okay!
Hi Mike!
I checked the local news stations in Joplin and they are saying more than people, they need money. Steev Inge from Mystery Church confirmed that this morning when I talked to him. That’s why we are first encouraging people to give directly to him so he can better support the member’s of his church and community. We’ll have additional opportunities to serve and support Joplin in the coming weeks and months.
Our recommendation would be to wait awhile until the professional rescue crews are finished and rebuilding begins. We’ll keep you posted.
Katie
OK
Thanks
Is there any body that will be going there to help clean up and etc?
I am an LPN and am available to help down in Joplin. They might have what they need in medical help already, could help do anything though.
They said, " On the radio that they will need people to cleaning up in 5-7 days but right now is just looking to find people and help them.
Will any of The Journey campuses be organizing groups to help with relief efforts? Are there opportunities for community groups to help with relief/rebuilding efforts either in Joplin or here locally?
Yes, you’ll have other opportunities to serve Joplin either here or in Joplin in the coming weeks and months. During this immediate time, all effort is made to evaluate the need and come up with a plan of attack to mobilze our church in the most effective way.
Through Acts 29, we’ve had a relationship with Steev and Mystery for the past four years and are looking forward to working beside him as he continues to love and serve his neighbors in Joplin.
It’s extremely helpful for us to know who is interested in serving in Joplin and if you have construction, nursing, an RV, equipment, etc. Continue to use this thread as a means to do so as well as ask questions.
We’ll post additional needs on The City as the come up. In the mean time, click here to give financially.
If anyone is going to Joplin is there a way supplies can be donated? I just heard on the news there is a truck at Hampton Village being packed and headed for Joplin. With everything gone… is there a place for them to shop for personal items? Would love to send some.
Our family would also like to donate clothing, water, supplies… Please post location for drop off if anyone knows…
I’m willing to go this weekend.
I would definitely like to help in the coming weeks/months: cleaning, rebuilding, cooking, etc.
The Ozark Red Cross as asked that people not self deploy to Joplin right now. If you are a medical professional you can register to help here
I contacted Steev this morning and they are doing well. He had time and opportunity to catch up on some communication and begin planning a more extensive plan for on going support. He’s asked for prayer that God will connect them with people they can serve, the storms that are expected will miss them, and for energy and strength for Mystery.
Rock Community Fire Protection District, in Arnold is collecting today. I think that if people are wanting to donate items this is a good place to take it to.That way we know for sure they will get to Joplin, and its a organized group taking it down not just an individual .
Katie, I’m an MD-if I have enough notice, I should be able to take a few days off in the coming weeks to go down and help.
Bob; let us know when we can go to Joplin to help with the recovery. BI
THANK YOU ALL!
So far, we’ve raised nearly $14,000 for Mystery Church and their relief effort in Joplin. I’ve been in continued conversation with Steev, pastor of Mystery, since Monday morning. He is overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone and is extremely grateful! Today he’s meeting with FEMA and many other organizations to begin organizing efforts there. They are asking people to stop sending supplies and people at this time. If people and supplies continue to flood the area, they will soon be dealing with a volunteer crisis on top of the destruction on the ground.
This afternoon we’ll begin organizing opportunities for you to begin going down and assisting in the coming weeks and months. In the meantime, continue to give financially as that is their greatest need.
The City will continue to be the best means to stay up to date on our plans.
Thanks!
Katie
Katie, count me in on helping facilitate/participate in work trips to Joplin if/when Steev determines the need.
Katie,
Lynn and I are happy to go to Joplin to help in any way with whatever is needed. I can do nursely stuff, or am happy to do clean up, painting, or whatever. Lynn has a chain saw and is very handy with fixing just about anything as well as tuckpointing, building etc. Just let us know what we can do to help.
Katie, can you please let me know how I can stay informed on possible trips to Joplin. I am an RN, with EMS experience and may be able to go down for a few days. Thanks.
Wow Bob this is heart breaking but encouraging as well. We will donate but am also interested in being apart of any cleanup team you guys assemble.
I am continually amazed at the people of The Journey! Along with some of our Acts 29 friends, we have raised over $22,000 for Mystery Church’s relief effort! Here is a short video from Steev Inge thanking you and explaining a little of what they’ve been through.
Teams will begin being assembled at each campus in the next week or so with the first opportunity to go in mid to late June. There will be plenty of time and opportunity to serve and love our friends in Joplin as this relief effort will take a long time (probably years).
The best ways to stay up to date is through The City, to follow @a29midwest on twitter, and/or check this website.
